Receipt for the security deposit payment

Updated on 08/17/2026

Have you paid a security deposit via Roomlala and are looking for proof of payment? A security deposit receipt is generated automatically as soon as your payment is processed. Here is where to find it, what it contains, and how to download it.

What is the security deposit receipt?

The security deposit receipt is a PDF document that certifies that you have successfully paid the security deposit for your rental. It summarizes the amount paid, the rental period, the property involved, and the current status of your security deposit.

This document is reserved for tenants: since you are the one paying the security deposit, you are the one who receives the receipt. The host, for their part, monitors the progress of the security deposit from their inbox.

Good news: the receipt is available as soon as the security deposit has been processed, without waiting for the end of your stay. It then updates automatically throughout the life of your security deposit.

Where to find your security deposit receipt

Go to your inbox, then open the conversation corresponding to your booking. In the summary of amounts, you will find a "Security deposit" box that displays the status and amount of your security deposit.

Under this box, click on the "Receipt" link. The document will appear directly on your screen.

If the link does not appear, it means the security deposit has not yet been processed. As long as the status is "Awaiting payment", no receipt can be issued.

What the receipt contains

The receipt is read in three parts:

  • General information: your reference number (in the format CAUTION_R followed by your booking code), your host's name, the rental period, and the address of the property
  • Security deposit details: the amount of the security deposit, service fees excluding tax, the tax (VAT), and the total amount you have paid
  • Security deposit status: its current status, amounts returned, withheld, or still being held, as well as key dates

A transaction history also appears at the bottom of the document. You will find each dated transaction there: the payment of the security deposit, followed by its return or refund when the time comes.

Understanding the displayed status

The receipt adapts based on the progress of your security deposit. Here are the statuses you may encounter:

  • Processed: the security deposit has been charged and is being held by Roomlala for the duration of the rental
  • Return in progress: the stay has ended, the security deposit will be automatically returned to you at the end of the claims period if no damage is reported
  • Damage reported: your host has reported damage, the security deposit remains blocked while the issue is being processed
  • Contested or In arbitration: you have contested the claim, Roomlala is reviewing the file
  • Returned in full or in part: the security deposit has been sent back to you, either in full or after a deduction
  • Withheld in full: the security deposit has been paid to the host due to reported damage
  • Cancelled: the booking has been cancelled, the security deposit and service fees have been refunded to you

As long as the security deposit has not been cleared, the receipt also displays upcoming deadlines: the expected return date and your host's claim deadline.

Download or share the receipt

From the receipt screen, click the "Download receipt" button at the top right. The PDF will be saved to your device.

From the iOS app, this button becomes "Share document": you can then send the receipt directly via email, message, or save it to your files.

Good to know

  • Service fees related to the security deposit are not refunded: they correspond to the security deposit being secured by Roomlala
  • In the event of a booking cancellation, the service fees are refunded to you at the same time as the security deposit
  • You can view and download your receipt as many times as you wish; it remains accessible from your inbox
  • The amount paid to the host for damages appears at the bottom of the receipt for informational purposes
